Ok, something happens when you enter your 30's. Or, maybe it's just some of us. But back in my 20's I used to put make up on to go about my day. Going shopping? Put make up on. Travelling? Put make up on. Besides, the beach, and having a PJ day at home (which is basically my life these days lol) I rarely went without make up. Fast forward to the 30's. At first I thought it was just me, and then my sister in law (Carly) and I noticed that we both felt the same way! What was up with this? Unless we were heading to work or some sort of proper outing, we refuse to wear make up. It just seems like such a tedious task these days. Back in my 20's it was just like brushing my teeth! There was no question, I was just putting on my make up. Is it because we're married? I can't blame it on children, I don't have any! Is it because I'm self employed, and the boss doesn't seem to mind it? Maybe I can blame hubby. B tells me I look better without make up. Now that's either a lie, or love truly is indeed, blind, because when people see me without make up, they often ask me if I'm seriously ill or tired. Lol. No, this is just my face. Cheers.
And it's not a case of I'm getting better looking, and therefore don't need make up. Quite the opposite. I mean, who gets better looking as they get older? Besides J Lo of course.
If Carly and I see each other (which is usually everyday) and one of us has make up on, it's like, ooohh la la where are you off toooooo?! Must be somewhere important, or work. And for me, even my 'work' make up isn't what it used to be! It's barely foundation and mascara. What is going on? Oh, and don't even get me started on travel! That's when I really let things slide. I'm in a place where I don't know anyone. Make up is not going on my face. Road trip you say? I don't even pack my make up case. Sometimes I drive with no pants on. Or just in a towel (if we've had a dip and I don't want to drive in my wet swimmers).
I'm even at the stage where I'll group all of my 'mandatory make up outings' into the same day, so that I only have to wear make up once that week. That's the level we're at now people. The outings where I need to look presentable are all piled into the same day. And if god forbid one of these outings cannot happen on that one day of the week, and I have to apply a face of make up for one little outing. There's a very high chance a cancellation is coming your way.
If anyone can offer any words of advice, or point me in the direction of some sort of support group, I'd be really grateful ;)
Ps - When I DO actually wear make up, here's some of my favourite items + staples, which I've used for many years.
Please note: the extensive MAC lipstick collection would give the impression I actually wear lipstick. I used to, but now, maybe just a couple of times a year! Lol.
